Thoughts on Gods or Guardians in stories

August 31, 2017

So along with I AM which will be about positive affirmations for kids I am working on a YA novel with a title that is a work in progress. The main character is taken from her home after showing she is a terrible ruler.

She is trapped in the Veil of Dreams then "rescued" by the guardian of the forest. As they journey and sees the life of the woods she learns how powerful the guardian is and questions why the guardian does not do more in the balance of life and death which had me thinking.

What is a readers view on stories with Gods in them? Gods who could step in and change everything the character knows so that the suffering do not suffer and those who are evil die. More and more stories and tv shows show suffering to really good characters.

One of my favorite series growing up was Dragon Lance. The characters were flawed and war raged across the land while the Gods sat back and watched the balance of life tip one way or another circling each other in balance. The Gods did set the stage but the script was the characters to live.

Complex situations like this make fantastic books and journey. If there was no hardships it would make a really short book. So what are your thoughts on this?
